Capital Improvements • Additions/new wings at Valley Elementary, Thompson High School and Linda Nolen Learning Center. • Recent renovations/classroom additions at Chelsea High School, Meadow View Elementary, Creek View Elementary, and Pelham High School. • New schools in high growth areas, including: 1) a new high school for the Helena zone; 2) a new elementary school for the Chelsea zone; and 3) a new Calera Middle School (former Shelby Academy Property) • Planned renovations include: 1) library and gymnasium renovation at Wilsonville Elementary; 2) kitchen, cafeteria, & gym expansion at Columbiana Middle; 3) gymnasium & locker room renovations at Montevallo Middle; 4) library renovation at Inverness Elementary; and 3) auditorium renovation at Vincent Middle/High.

22. Accomplishments Highest graduation rate in system’s history – 93% Continued Above-Average ACT scores. For 2011, the average system composite score was 22.1; the state average was 20.3. Continued increase in standardized test scores in all schools – Test scores havecontinued to improve in spite of proration and other issues. As mentioned earlier, Child Nutrition Program was recognized at the national level and 20 of our schools were awarded the USDA HealthierUS Schools Gold Medal of Distinction. Shelby County Schools recognized for the past 2 years by Ala. School Connectionsas having the most informative and transparent website among all school districts inthe state. Achieved District Accreditation from SACS/AdvancED in October 2009 and was given the Quality Achievement Award for being a model district.
