A. UPDATES • New BFL Members • Hon. Mila M. Ramos, former Chief Librarian of the International Rice Research Institute in Los Banos, Laguna and Hon. Arabella M. Ananoria, Director of Libraries of the University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos in Bacolod City. • New Professional Regulatory Board • Board of Real Estate Services, 43rd profession to be regulated by the PRC. • New PRC Commissioner • Hon. Antonio S. Adriano of the Board of Interior Design
A. UPDATES • New CPE Handbook • 2010 version of the CPE Handbook • New CPE System • a smart card system for recording, storing, organizing, and verifying information relating to the number of credit units earned by professionals • not compulsory but voluntary
B. MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS • Standards for Philippine Libraries • Res. No. 3, series of 2007 entitled “Prescription and Adoption of Policies and Standards for All Types of Libraries in the Philippines”, approved by the Commission on Oct. 25, 2007 • Continuing Professional Education (CPE) • as of March 2010, your Board ranked 2nd under the voluntary implementation of the CPE program, having accredited 26 CPE providers and 38 programs for registered librarians
B. MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS • Research Paper • research paper entitled “Performance in Professional Board Examinations for Librarians in the Last 5 Years (2004-2008) : Trends, Issues, and Future Directions” • Terms of Specifications of Competencies • a matrix on the terms of specifications of competencies for the six subjects covered by the licensure examination • a way of ensuring that the test questions are valid and plausible through an item analysis generated after an exam
B. MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS • BLIS / MLIS Curriculum Revision - two task forces were created to : a. revise CMO # 08 on “Policies, Standards, and Guidelines of BLIS Enhanced Curriculum” b. formulate a proposed CMO for the MLIS Curriculum
C. PLANS • Continuous Monitoring and Evaluation of Schools Offering BLIS/MLIS • has visited and inspected 47 library schools, talked to their administrators, and encouraged them to : a. increase their student population b. improve their facilities and their faculty • Inspection of Libraries • the area of inspection as well as the scope of work of members of the Board has widened since it will now include various schools, public, and special libraries all over the country
C. PLANS • Magna Carta for Librarians • come up with a magna carta similar to that of professional teachers • Amendments to RA 9246 (“The Phil. Librarianship Act of 2003”) • Resolution Recognizing PLAI as an Integrated Association
