Implementation Language ChangesEffective January 1, 2014 • No changes or revisions were made to any of the Standards themselves since last update • Revisions were made to the implementation language in two areas – mainly for clarification and guidance to programs
Implementation Language Changes Std. 3.3A and Std. 3.3B - The scientific and research foundations of the profession are evident in the curriculum. The program must demonstrate how it verifies that students obtain knowledge in the basic sciences (e.g., biological, behavioral, physical science, and mathematicsstatistics)…
Implementation Language Changes Std. 1.7 - The program provides information about the program and the institution to students and to the public that is current, accurate, and readily available. Std. 5.3 - The program conducts regular and ongoing assessments of program effectiveness and uses the results for continuous improvement. …the following measures of student achievement…number and percentage of program graduatestest-takers from the program excluding individuals who graduated more than three years ago passing the Praxis examinations… NOTE: In reporting to CAA by programs – only report results once for multiple tests taken in same reporting period by same individual.
Standards Citation Trends • CAA publishes summary of standards compliance data from previous calendar year on website in March • Types of Accreditation Decisions • Standards cited most often • To help inform programs about “problem” areas and encourage program improvement
Accreditation Decisions CAA completed 52 accreditation reviews in 2012 (12 in Audiology, 40 in SLP) with the following decisions: • 47 programs re-accredited for 8-year cycle • 1 program awarded initial accreditation for 5-year cycle • 2programs awarded candidacy • 1 program placed on probation • 1 program’s probation status was continued for a second year
Non-Compliance Trends Standards cited by CAA most frequently as non-compliant or partially compliantin 2012: • Link provided in Spring CAA e-newsletter, which went to all CAA program directors and faculty on April 3, 2013 • Listed – by year – on web site > http://www.asha.org/Academic/accreditation/CAA-Standards-Compliance-Trends/
Praxis Pass Rates CAA continues to monitor audiology exam pass rates – CAA looks at national reports of highest score reported (no multiple test-takers) for those who earned bachelor’s degree plus additional credits, master’s, master’s degree plus additional credits, or doctoral degree – for 2011/2012 reporting period, the pass rate among this group was 74.8% as reported by ETS.
CAA Vacancies for 2014 Vacancies are for the following volunteer positions, for terms beginning January 1, 2014: • one audiology academic • one audiology practitioner • one SLP practitioner. More information about CAA and the link to apply can be found on-line (applications are due June 1, 2013): http://www.asha.org/academic/accreditation/caa_noms/ NOTE: The call for applications to serve as a CAA Site Visitor will occur this Fall 2013.
Customer Satisfaction Survey The Accreditation Customer Satisfaction Survey will be fielded this Fall 2013 – CAA wants to hear from you! NEWthis year > all faculty (academic and clinical) at CAA-accredited programs will have the opportunity to provide feedback by completing the survey individually.

Program Tips and Reminders Cost of CAA Accreditation - value relative to cost
Program Tips and Reminders Autonomy of CAA in accreditation decision-making, standards-setting, and policy issues – distinctly separate and without influence of ASHA or staff in these areas
