  2. Registration is Important to You! It facilitates… Proper placement in courses Fulfillment of graduation requirements Appropriate selection of elective courses The assignment of courses that will meet graduation objectives and goals. The application process for special programs

Registration is a FOUR Step Process • Registration assembly for students • Consultation with teachers and parents for input and signatures • Submission of completed course selection sheet to English or Social Science teacher by February 25th to “seal” registration process • Meeting with counselor to review and finalize courses chosen in April

  4. Your classes will be coming to guidance in April for you to meet personally with your guidance counselor. You will receive a copy of the classes that you requested and have a chance to change any choices you made before coming to Guidance to review your chosen courses with your counselor!

  5. Materials Needed for Registration • Course selection sheet • Credit summary • Curriculum guide online at PVCHS. com for reference • AP course selection sheet for admission into AP classes

  6. Anatomy of a Course Selection Sheet • The course selection sheet is used to select courses for next year • Have your academic subjects (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language) signed by your current teachers in those subjects. • Any course, academic or elective, followed by a line needs a teacher signature. • Rank electives 1 – 3. You are required to choose 3 electives! Number the electives #1, #2, #3.

  7. Course Selection Sheet All students will be scheduled for levels of English, math and science based upon their FCAT scores and prior performance. Students with low FCAT scores will be required to have a Progress Monitoring Plan (PMP) and to drop elective courses to take INTENSIVE READING and/or INTENSIVE MATH to support their regular English and/or math class or an additional science class in their senior year. Thus, the schedule you choose may be changed when FCAT scores are received. Parents should be involved in the student’s selection of classes.   25. OJT Responsibilities • It is your responsibility to have a job by the first day of class in August • You may not work “off the books”; it is illegal. You will be required to turn in a time card and pay stub showing taxes out of your pay each month. • You are expected to work a minimum of 5 hours per school credit each week, for example: OJT 7th hour only=5 hours of work per week (at least) OJT 6th &7th hours=10 hours of work per week (at least) OJT 5th, 6th & 7th hours=15 hours per week (at least) No student should exceed 30 hours a week!!!!!

The student must also pass the written personal fitness competency exam with a grade of “C” or higher.

  30. Promotion to next grade level In order to be classified in the computer as a 12th grader, you need 17 credits, as an 11th grader, you need 11 credits as a 10th grader, you need 5 credits.

Minimum Requirements for Florida University Admission • English – 4 years • Math – 4 years (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II are a minimum) • Science – 3 years • Social Studies – 3 years • Foreign Language - 2 consecutive years • 4 additional academic credits (English, Math, Science, Social Studies or Foreign Language) • A total of at least 18 ACADEMIC credits

Advanced Placement Courses • Provides qualified students with the opportunity to take college level courses while in high school • Earn college credit by achieving appropriate levels of proficiency on the national AP Exam. • Eligibility for AP classes is based on: • PSAT/SAT/ACT scores • GPA/HPA • Teacher Recommendation • Readiness to engage in a college level learning experience • Submit a completed application by February 5th deadline • AP classes will not be dropped once the school year begins

Dual EnrollmentEarn college credit while at PVCHS! • 3 Dual Enrollment classes each semester will be offered at PVCHS next year (Strategies for College Success , College Algebra & Medical Terminology, Health Concepts for Medical Academy Seniors) • For eligible students with a 3.0 or above (seniors with 2.5 can take Strategies for College Success) • Choose PVCHS, Palm Beach Community College or Florida Atlantic University • A grade of “C” or better must be earned • Confirmed application deadline with your counselor Remember! Dual enrollment classes become part of the permanent college transcript and impact eligibility for financial aid.
