Warm Up WHY SHOULDN’T ALL AMERICANS HAVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE?
Learning Target I can trace and describe the major goals and accomplishments of the Women’s Suffrage Movement.
Background • Before 1919, women could not vote, • The campaign for women’s suffrage began during the 1820s. • Woman’s role in society increased. • Women began demanding the same rights as men; including the right to vote! WHY WOULD HAVING THE RIGHT TO VOTE BE SO IMPORTANT?
Historical Investigation • Use the primary sources to research how suffrage developed. • Create a timeline. • Decide on some possible solutions • Decide if the government should get involved in this problem.
Ticket out the Door • The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. • Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. Put your name on a 3x5 card and write what these quotes mean.
