  25. New Standard for Review Dear TC/PC Chairs and Vice-Chairs: Please see the below notice concerning the new standard available for public review. If appropriate, please forward to members on your committee. If you have any questions, please contact Amy Barrett at amyb@aiaa.org. Thanks. Betty __________________________________________________________________________________________ New Standard Available for Public Review: Qualification and Quality Requirements for Space Solar CellsThe AIAA Solar Cells and Solar Panels Committee on Standards has revised the standard Qualification and Quality Requirements for Space Solar Cells and it is now available for public review and comment. The original standard was published in 2005.  Key revisions include the option of using displacement damage dose methodology to define radiation effects, qualification of cells for any trajectory as opposed to separate tests that confined qualification to just low earth orbit or geosynchronous earth orbit, definitions of minimum success criteria for each test, and characterizations to collect sufficient data to predict electrical performance at a given stage of mission life. As with the previous version, the standard defines terminology and establishes uniform processes, procedures, and systematic methods for verifying the capability of a photovoltaic device to operate in a relevant space environment. This standard applies to all solar cells which operate in space.  If interested in reviewing this document, please visit the link below. 39. Action #2 – AIAA ReadyTalk call in number The numbers are: US Number 8667401260 Toll Number 3032480285 Access Code 2649992 Please remember to add the day and time of the telecoms to the Program Committee SharePoint Calendar - https://info.aiaa.org/tac/pc/Lists/Calendar/calendar.aspx. This is so no one schedules a telecom during the same time and it also provides AIAA with information once the bill comes in. Pick your day and time in April to have your subcommittee meeting. You can use your own telecon number or the AIAA number above. If you use the AIAA number you must use add it to the calendar. Send the day, time, and call-in information to Marty

  41. Meeting Notes SciTech 2014 There were 17 attendees + 3 visitors + 3 virtual participants Mark Melanson – the lead for Program Committees - discussed the Integration Tier Jimmy Kenyon – deputy P&E for Airbreathing Propulsion – discussed getting GEPC assistance with the next propulsion design competition – Ruben Del Rosario agreed to be contact Gary Dale briefed us on “Airframe Technologies for USAF Energy Efficiency“ We discussed award options. There was both encouragement and concern about trying to support our own GEPC award. Creating a “Green Engineering best paper” award was judged to be easier than creating a new award. Also, cooperating with another committee to help produce nomination packages was a good option. Rich Wahls and Franz-Joseph Kahle briefed us on Conference status and plans. Chris Hughes volunteered to represent the GEPC at P&E 15. We had extensive discussions about our first “call for papers” being for SciTech15. Concerns were too much overlap with other committees and our ability to review abstracts. We agreed to develop a draft call for papers and run it by the P&E leadership. Marty called for volunteers to fill the multiple open positions in the committee. After there were no volunteers, he agreed to take an action to contact the membership (some individually) to fill the positions. (immediately after the meeting 4 people volunteered for jobs!)
  42. Notes from Propulsion & Energy Group Meeting Business reality – tight budgets P&E 2014 – “Leveraging Aerospace and Energy Technology Synergies to Address Future Challenges” Overview of Pressure Gain Combustion WG (now a new PC) “Communicate, Ask for help, Get Commitments‘”

  44. Charter The purpose of the Green Engineering Program Committee (GEPC) is to promote a holistic, systems approach to improved energy efficiency, sustainability, renewable energy and ‘cradle-to-cradle’ design. GEPC serves as the AIAA focal point for all “green” aerospace-related programs and technologies, and works synergistically with the appropriate technical committees to assure that the AIAA membership is adequately informed about all aspects of this critical aerospace activity.
