Rules for Possessive Pronouns • Use my, your, her, our, and their before nouns. • Use mine, yours, hers, ours, and theirs alone. • His and its can be used both before nouns and alone. • Do not use an apostrophe with a possessive pronoun.
POSSESSIVE PRONOUN EXAMPLE • Renee said, “My dogs like to swim.” • My is the possessive pronoun and it takes the place of Renee.
POSESSIVE PRONOUN EXAMPLE • I will show you the crowns that I own. • is changed to • I will show you mine.
POSSESSIVE PRONOUN EXAMPLE • Your teacher is funny! • Your is the possessive pronoun and it takes the place of the teacher’s name.
POSSESSIVE PRONOUN EXAMPLE • Is that towel yours? • Yours is the possessive pronoun and it takes the place of the person’s name you are asking the question to.

POSSESSIVE PRONOUN EXAMPLE • The best seats in the stadium are the ones that Rick and I have. • is changed to • The best seats in the stadium are ours.
