The Process of PBIS Step 2: Examining the values, interests, attitudes, and lifestyle preferences of our students
We know about our lenses, but what about our kids’ lenses? Our PBIS lessons must be culturally relevant in order to be effective. How do we make our lessons culturally relevant? We must know what is “relevant” to our Eagles. What is important to them? What motivates them? Who impresses them? What do they value?
All of our questions will be answered by … The Twenty Questions Survey (TQS)
Another assessment? When?Where? How?Are you kidding me?!
Why is TQS important? • Immediately: • Our Eagles will know that we are interested in them. • We will have some ideas as to what motivates them. • We will improve our relationships with them. • Future: • Will assist the committee in creating relevant lesson plans to teach behavioral expectations. • We will capture the cultural values of our Eagles to inform our school wide plan for teaching behavior.
PBIS is a Process! Step 2: learn what about our students’ lenses!
