Discrimination Discrimination is: • treating people differently, negatively or less favourably, without reason • the acting out of individual prejudices and/or group stereotypes • unintended results of practices or norms Human Rights are Everyone's Responsibility
HARASSMENT • course of vexatious comment or conduct in relation to a person or a group of persons • known or ought reasonably to be known to be unwelcome ( section 10 (1) ) • harmful, objectionable, offensive, demeaning • Every person has a right to study/work in an environment free from harassment Human Rights are Everyone's Responsibility
Harassment Is Not: • normal social contact • mutual flirting • chivalry/politeness • performance assessment

Duty to Accommodate • Ask a student to remove a scarf that covers her face so that you can verify her identity at a midterm or final exam. • Talk to other students about the fact that a student in your tutorial has a learning disability and will be writing quizzes and midterms in the Student Disability Services Office. • Tell students that if they miss a lab for any reason, they will get zero for that lab especially where the issue is accommodation.
