Operations Management • Operations Management is: The management of systems or processes that create goods and/or provide services • Operations Management affects: • Companies’ ability to compete • Nation’s ability to compete internationally
OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT* The functional area of management that is responsible forsystems that create goods or provide services. This encompasses the acquisition of resources (labor,material, operating budget, and facilities) and the conversion of their inputs to outputs using one or moretransformation processes. This includes planning, coordinating, and controlling the elements (includingthe resources) that comprise the process. *Sometimes referred to as Production, Production and Operations Management, and Resources Management.
