Forgiveness… • Luke 17:3 Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you,rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. • Acts 3:19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord • Hebrews 8:12 “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.“ (NKJV)
Forgiveness… • Luke 15:20 And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.21And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.'22But the father said to his servants, 'Bringout the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.23And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry;24for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' And they began to be merry.
We are commanded to forgive… • Mark 11:25 "And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. • Colossians 3:12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
Forgiving one another is essential… • Luke 23:33 And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left. 34 Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do." And they divided His garments and cast lots. • Acts 7:59 And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." 60 Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not charge them with this sin." And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
Forgiving one another is essential… • 1Corinthians 13:4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; • Ephesians 4:32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.
… it is absolutely necessary! • Matthew 6:12 And forgive us our debts,As we forgive our debtors.13And do not lead us into temptation,But deliver us from the evil one.For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.14"For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.15But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
… it is absolutely necessary! • Mark 11:25 "And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.26But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses."
Forgiving others… • Matthew 18:35 So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses." • Matthew 15:8 'These people draw near to Me with their mouth,Andhonor Me with their lips,But their heart is far from Me. (NKJV)

Forgiving as God forgives… • God forgives abundantly • God forgives immediately • God forgives finally – He remembers no more • Also, He forgives without limit… over and over again! • HOW MANY TIMES HAS HE FORGIVEN YOU?! • Jesus commanded Peter to forgive, not… “up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven” (Matthew 18:22)
Some practical things to meditate on with regard to forgiveness… • We should ask for God’s assistance with this through prayer. • But don’t just say the prayer, pray the prayer. • Recite part of the model prayer, including your offender’s name. • Practice praying for them, Jesus prayed for those who wronged Him. • Speak to others kindly about the one who is in the wrong
The sin of one brother against another… • Read Matthew 18:21… • The sin of one brother against another, and the failure to deal with the issue properly, has possibly caused more trouble amongst the brethren - than any other single problem.
Who is to initiate the healing process? • Matthew 5:23 Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you,24leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. • Read Matthew 18:15…
In Conclusion… • Matthew 18:32 Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, 'You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. • Matthew 18:34 And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. (NKJV)
God forgives… • God forgives abundantly • God forgives immediately • God forgives finally – He remembers no more • Also, He forgives without limit… over and over again!
