Challenges of the JUNGLEMonkies on our back • Schools indicate that they do not have enough time to teach behavior and academics….. • “REWARD” behavior that they are supposed to be exhibiting • Traditional punitive reactive approach • Administrator not attending PBS Monthly meetings • The once-over without rehearsals and boosters
CHALLENGES cont…. • Replacement not punishment!!!!! • NOT JUST POSTERS ON THE WALL
Reinforcers do not have to be tangibles • St Tammany places great emphasis in connecting the behavior to the expectation to assist in internalizing the skill
WHY???? SCHOOL is not always that important to children therefore we want to CONDITION the environment to become more REINFORCING!!!!! By deliberately teaching prosocial behavior and reinforcing that behavior, we teach the student to internalize pro-social behavior. The result….SOCIALLY COMPETENT and SOCIALLY ATTRACTIVECHILDREN
