  1. 3 Myths of Early Childhood Education

  2. Myth 1: The Achievement Gap is Not a Problem Stress, like limited nutrition, unstable housing, dangerous neighborhoods, and economic instability negatively impacts emotional growth and overall brain development. Because of these factors, children from low-income families have lower vocabulary as compared to high-income children. This results into a well-recognized achievement gap among students in every country. Eliminating the achievement gap boosts high school completion rates, setting children up for college or a vocation. Hence it’s wrong to say that the achievement gap is not a problem. Myth 2: Early Learning is Ineffective Early education is the best way to counteract the toxic stress of children coming from any background. Children enrolled in early learning program come to their first year of school more advanced than the ones not in the program. Early childhood education programs boost student achievement and enhance learning later in life. Hence early learning is very effective.

  3. Myth 3: Early Childhood Education is Too Expensive It’s a common misconception that even if early education programs are effective, they are very expensive for common people. When kids advance through an education system, society progresses. Lot of money is saved on prison spending and remedial education. Also country grows economically because increased tax revenue by children earning more. As one Pew study shows, the consequence of not investing $10,000 per student in early education is $250,000 in costs per student later in life from lower earnings and more need for public assistance. Early childhood education has a tremendous impact on life outcomes. That is why understanding the need to invest in very young children is so important, so as to maximize their future well-being.
