Crises religieuze reactie • Extreme crisis voor het individu: aantasting van het eigen lichaam  ziekte • Ziekte: • 1 een toestand te voorkomen / bestrijden door niet-medische ingrepen of door (para-)medisch handelen • 2 een situatie waarin men zich ten einde genezing te vinden wendt tot mensen met specifieke kennis of tot de bovennatuur (die al dan niet als arts optreedt)

  5. DE DOOD • Een zekerheid! Burkert: “fear of death is a fact of life” • Het lichaam houdt op te functioneren. En de geest? • Sterven/rouw : rite-de-passage • “Lijkbezorging”: crematie, begrafenis • Enige vorm van bijzetting is belangrijk

Indien de geest voortleeft… 1 wijdverspreid geloof in een voortbestaan van de mens na de dood, in enigerlei vorm en op enigerlei plaats (  re-incarnatie) 2 In het graf en/of in een hiernamaals 3 Het hiernamaals heeft in de antieke culturen vaak de vorm van een onderwereld: vgl. het thema van de weg naar de onderwereld: psuchopompoi etc. 4 Straf of beloning in hiernamaals voor daden verricht in deze wereld
