EPA Diesel Fuel Legislation • The cleaner diesel fuel program • reduces sulfur content, • Provides immediate health benefits • allows engine manufacturers to begin using advanced emissions control systems that further reduce harmful emissions. • The diesel program regulations are located in 40 CFR Part 80 subpart I. • Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) is 15 parts per million (ppm) sulfur specification • Phased in for highway diesel fuel from 2006-2010. • Emissions will be reduced by more than 90%. • Diesel engines equipped with advanced emission control devices (generally, 2007 and later model years) must use highway ULSD fuel. • Low sulfur (500 ppm) and Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuel will be phased in for non-road, locomotive, and marine (NRLM) engines from 2007-2014.
