Enhancements & Improvements • Fitness Center • 35 pieces of Cardio Equipment on Stage Area • Music Equipment • Chimes, Timpani, Vibraphone, Marimba, Pearl Snare Drum • Meeting Space • Reconfigured and repurposed space to triple our meeting locations • Security • Increased security cameras and upgraded system • Math Textbook Adoption • CMP3 was adopted for all middle schools for 14-15

  11. Sixth Grade Exploratory Classes Most sixth graders will take four exploratory classes during the 2014-2015 school year. Each class session is nine weeks (one quarter). The classes are: • Art • Introduction to Foreign Language • Computer Essentials • Digital Literacy

  12. Computer Essentials – Mrs. Szabo • This class will spend time working on keyboarding skills. Striving for proper technique, accuracy, and speed. • Students will learn skills in the areas of word processing, database, spreadsheet, graphics, and Internet research and safety. • They will work on their writing skills at the computer.

Digital Literacy – Mr. Bailye • Digital citizenship • online behavior. • social media. • Research • Evaluate online sources for valid information. • Formulate and organize research questions. • Searching techniques • Produce a formal paper on findings in MLA format • Electronic collaboration • Non-PowerPoint Digital Presentations • Prezi and other media. • Real time collaboration • Manage and maintain work by utilizing file naming conventions and directory organization.

  14. Art – Mrs. Shadel • This course will provide an introduction to art and visual culture with an emphasis on art-making, art analysis, creative thinking and problem solving. Students will be exploring the question: How can art be used to communicate? • Students will learn to use a variety of media and techniques, including drawing, painting and ceramics. • Art history and careers are also integrated throughout the curriculum.

  15. Introduction to Foreign Language – Ms. Robinette • Students will learn greetings, conversational phrases, and commands in multiple languages as well as learn about various cultures and their history. • Students will learn the grammatical structures of the language through reading, writing, speaking and listening. • Students will have a general understanding of many different cultures and languages that they may wish to further explore.
