My roles • Lecturer in Dept of Electronic & Computer Engineering, AIT. • My subjects are Digital Electronics, Computer Engineering, Computer Applications, Operating Sytems and Programming. • e-learning projects research and development. • Associate lecturer for the Open University in Faculty of Maths, Computing & Technology (part-time position). • Previously I have worked for the National Distance Education Centre, DCU as a tutor on technology programmes. • Also I have worked in telecommunications software development and research.
My ICT/e-learning/TEL experience • Involved in e-learning/TEL/ICT for education for many years. • Begun with Cisco e-learning environment for technology courses. • Cisco is a proprietary system. • My institute uses Moodle as its virtual learning environment (VLE). • I now use Moodle extensively for my courses as well as the Cisco environment. • I use Moodle for all my teaching resources, quizzes, lessons and communication with students. • Project development in e-assessment and lessons. • I have experience of synchronous teaching environments like Wimba,WiZiQ, DimDim and Elluminate. • I also use interactive whiteboard (Smart Technologies).
My EU LLP project involvement • Erasmus teaching visits exchange (Valencia, Spain and Vilnius, Lithuania). • Grundtvig In Service Training (Poland and Malta). • Grundtvig Learning Partnership project on Blended Learning (Partners from Lithuania, Denmark, Norway, Netherlands, Belgium). • Grundtvig contact seminar (Romania).
What are my objectives for this study visit? • To learn much more about ICT in education and its pedagogical use in the French education system. • To gather information on ICT in education resources e.g. websites, books. • To discover examples of ICT projects in use throughout the EU from the other participants and possible networking opportunities. • Gain understanding of good practice in ICT in education • To gain knowledge of possible EU funding opportunities for projects in ICT in education. • To discover the French approach to the training of teachers for ICT in education.
