Hunters And Gatherers • The hunters were usually men. • They hunted large animals like wooly rhinoceroses, giant oxen, and elephant like mammoths and mastodons. They are now extinct • Normally the women were gatherers. • They gathered nuts, berries, and wild plants.
Farmers and Herders • Herders domesticated sheep, goats, and pigs • Later on, the also domesticated cattle. • There were nomadic herders. • Farmers harvested barley and wheat. • The farmers created plows to harvest easily.
Jericho, Catal Huyuk, Ur • Jericho was built an oasis and built a large wall to keep out enemies and flood waters. Nomadic travelers would stop for water • Catal Huyuk was a mountain city and would trade obsidian. They built their houses out of sun dried mud bricks and would enter their houses through the roof • Ur had a ziggurat in the middle of the city with a temple on the top. • Ur was also a city-state.
Summary It was hard for early people to live because they didn’t have the technology that we have today. They had to event things atlatl and the plow. Before the plow they used sharp sticks, bones, shells, and rocks. They had to domesticate animals so they could get food, and help with work.
