ASSIGNMENT AND MAIN TASKS OF 24TH AIR BASE 24th Air Base - main aviation unit of Bulgarian Air Forces in support of local population in crises, calamities, and industrial damages 24th Air Base has the capabilities and organization to actively participate in operations to protect local population in the case of disasters, damages, and catastrophes within the country’s territory. 3

  4. CAPABILITIES TO PARTICIPATE IN DISASTER RELIEF MISSIONS • Disaster Response Unit (DRU) to for the event of emergency in Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). • DRU for the event of industrial emergencies. • DRU for the firefighting missions. 4

  5. CAPABILITIES TO PARTICIPATE IN DISASTER RELIEF MISSIONS (2) • DRU to forward consequences management efforts in the event of floods. • DRU to destroy unexploded explosive ordnance. • Search and Rescue 5

  6. CAPABILITIES TO PARTICIPATE IN JOINT OPERATIONS WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS • Patrolling and traffic control. • Special operations in cooperation with Ministry of Interior’ forces. 6

  7. CAPABILITIES TO PARTICIPATE IN JOINT OPERATIONS WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS (2) Successful joint operation requires development of entire system comprising the information, management, and executive sub-systems. 7
