  3. I. Reasons a Christian Falls Away • Temptation – Jam. 1:12-15 • Lack of Conviction – Mark 4:16-17 • False Doctrine – Gal. 5:4; I Tim. 4:1-2 • Rebellion – Heb. 3:12-13

  4. II. What the Christian Should NOT Do • Excuse their sin • Think that God will never forgive – Luke 17:3-4 • Give up and throw away faith – Matt. 27:3-5 • Reject the truth and the Savior – Heb. 6:4-6 • There is a danger of ‘searing’ the conscience with evil

What the Christian Should Do • Understand the serious nature of sin – Isa. 59:1-2; Psa. 51:3-4 • Sin is an insult to the holiness of God – I John 1:5-6 • Repent and confess our sins – Psa. 51:1-3, 17 • Will confess sins when willing to repent & change • Will confess sins when striving to walk in light • Be willing to forgive those who sin against us • Maintain our faith – Luke 22:31-32 • Peter would fall to temptation and deny the Lord

  6. IV. What God Will Do • Forgive – John 1:7, 9 • Cleanse the conscience – Heb. 9:14 • Give us strength to press on to the end – Phil. 3:12-14
