Advantages for Turkey? 2. Why develop Wind Energy in Turkey? Bring the Power Plant to the Fuel (i.e. Wind) • Doesn't require add'l or traditional fuel. • Doesn't create greenhouse gases. • Doesn't produce toxic or radioactive waste. • Doesn't require transportation. • Doesn't have hazards or spills. … so part of the answer to the world’s, and of course, Turkey’s energy situation is literally “blowing” in the wind!
How has Spain Integrated Wind Energy? 3. The Spanish Case - data! • Basic Wind Energy (WE) Data from Spain: • WE avoided emissions of more than 22 million tons of CO2. • WE avoided fossil fuel imports of €1.2 Bn EUROs. • WE covered 14,3% of demand (2009) vs 11,5% (2008). • The WE sector generated 40,000 jobs. • The WE sector exports totaled more than €2,9 Bn EUROs. • The total installed base at 01/Jan/2010 was 19,148.8 MW. • WE is 2nd technology in installed power, before coal & nuclear. • WE directly and indirectly amounts to 0,39% of the Spanish PIB. How has Spain Integrated Wind Energy? 3. The Spanish Case - data!
How has Spain Integrated Wind Energy? 3. The Spanish Case – the mix! • More Wind Energy (WE) Data from Spain: • According to REE (Red Eléctrica Española): • WE Production reached 36.188 GWh (2009). • Behind CCGT (gas turbines) which reached 78.364GWh. • And Nuclear which reached 52.741 GWh. • WE increased production by 15,57% (vs. 2008). • WE production surpassed coal for the 1st time. • Coal fired production reached 33.844 GWh (26,86% less than 2008). • Hydroelectric generated 23.887 GWh. New Record: 30 Dec 2009, at 3:50 am, 54.1% of demand generated by wind. Historical production max on 08/Nov/2009: 11.620 MW instantaneous power, 251.543 MW/h of daily wind energy production, 44,9% of the electrical demand. This same day, the WE production from 03:00am to 08:30am covered 53% of demand, which oscillated between 21.7 GW & 19.7 GW. How has Spain Integrated Wind Energy? 3. The Spanish Case - data! Particulars? Let’s talk!

Some Keys to Success?
Conclusions 5. Conclusions • Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) are the single biggest line item in development costs for Wind Energy Power Plants (WEPPs). • WTGs vary in power rating, size, noise and O&M needs; providing different yields depending on specific wind conditions at each site. Selection is very specific to your site. • The correct selection of your technological partner & WTG is critical.
