8. Then what happens? Applicants are invited to participate in the “assessment process”
What IS the “assessment process”??
It’s a standardized test created by psychologists. It consists of three sections:
1. Critical Thinking: Assesses problem solving and critical thinking skills
2. Life Experiences: Assesses selected leadership and interpersonal skills
3. Writing Fundamentals: Assesses writing ability
9. What?!? You can’t study for this test, but you can learn more about it so you’re as well-prepared as possible. How do you learn more?
10. The Assessment Good news—there is an Assessment Preparation Guide online (https://www.pmf.opm.gov/Documents/HowPrepGuide.pdf). The Assessment Guide has some sample questions so you know what to expect
Better news—Scott is here to tell you about his experience taking the Assessment and to provide tips!
11. What happens next? Based on assessment scores, PMF will determine the finalists
If you are a finalist, you do NOT have a job yet—remember, you were competing with students from a range of graduate programs, so PMF doesn’t just assign jobs to the wide range of finalists
12. PMF Placement Process Finalists are invited to attend a PMF Job Fair (in DC), which is attended by participating Federal agencies
Finalists have access to an online PMF Projected Positions System to identify agency positions (i.e., there is a special site just for PMFs that lists jobs set-aside for PMFs)
Finalists have 12 months from the date they are selected to be appointed to agency positions
