  1. Redefining Confession Grace Sin Forgiveness Repentance The Good News

  2. Redefining The Good News • The Truth: • God defines sin • All sin falls short of God’s standards • All sin separates us from God • Confession is mandatory • Repentance is mandatory

  3. Redefining The Good News God defines sin The ways of the Lord are right; The righteous walk in them, But the rebellious stumble in them. Hosea 14:9 NIV

  4. Redefining The Good News All sin falls short of God’s standards “There is no one righteous, not even one; There is no one who understands, No one who seeks God. All have turned away, They have together become worthless; There is no one who does good, not even one.” Romans 3:10-12 NIV

  5. Redefining The Good News All sin separates us from God But your iniquities have separated You from your God; Your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear. For your hands are stained with blood, Your fingers with guilt. Your lips have spoken lies, And your tongue mutters wicked things. Isaiah 59:2-3 NIV

  6. Redefining The Good News Confession is mandatory The Lord said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites: When a man or woman wrongs another in any way and so is unfaithful to the Lord, that person is guilty and must confess the sin he has committed.” Numbers 5:5-7 NIV If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:8-9 NIV

  7. Redefining The Good News Repentance is mandatory Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. 2 Corinthians 7:10 NIV “I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.” Acts 26:17-18 NIV

  8. Redefining The Good News Strategy: Remove the requirement of repentance from sin by redefining the word “sin” Claim: If things the Bible calls sin aren’t really bad – why do we have to repent or change? Results: 1) The Good News loses its power to change us. 2) Religion supplants a right relationship with God. 3) Our flesh overcomes righteousness.
