Introduction • “Lust is called love, hard core pornography is tagged as art, …car theft is joy riding, cursing and obscenity is emphatic speech.” W. Winkler • Some religions deny the existence of sin!
The Delusion • Delusion = belief in something that is contrary to fact, resulting from deception • Today many believe there is no such thing as “right” or “wrong” • Judges 17:6
The Delusion • Deception = 1.the act of deceiving; the state of being deceived. 2. something that deceives or is intended to deceive; • Jn. 8:44
The Delusion • Many today want to say what is right or wrong should be left up to each individual • A man killed his wife who had Alzheimer’s –he was amazed when they convicted him of murder!
The Delusion • What does the Bible say about sin? • 1 Jn. 1:8-10 • You can change “the name of poison to peppermint, but it doesn’t make it any less dangerous”
The Delusion • 1. It seems right • Judges 17:6 • Men say each person must decide what is right for himself • Prov. 16:25 • Jer. 10:23
The Delusion • 2. It’s not my fault • We now offer many, many excuses for the sins we commit • “I had a poor upbringing” • I was abused • We try to minimize sin • Gal. 6:7-8
The Delusion • 3. I didn’t know any better • “He wasn’t raised to know better” • “He didn’t know it was wrong to steal” • Ignorance is no excuse!
The Delusion • Acts 3:13-17, 19, • Acts 17:30 • Just because we are not aware of the law does not mean that we are not guilty of a violation of the law!
The Delusion • 4. My conscience is clear • Some have no conscience-while others have not trained their conscience • Jn. 16:2 • Acts 23:1
The Delusion • Many today have trained their conscience wrong • How many today believe it is ok for a man and woman to live together without being married? • How about sex change operations or abortion?
The Delusion • “The delusions regarding sin are many, and have so affected some religions that even practicing homosexuals are occupying their pulpits.” Mark Aites
What The Word Of God Says • Look at the following verses that discuss sin---note what the Bible says about homosexuality • Rom. 1:28-32 • 1 Cor. 6:9-10,11 • Gal. 5:19-21
Conclusion • Sin is sin!! • When we sin we stand guilty before God • 1 Jn. 3:4 • Jn. 8:34 • Redefining sin will not change it nor does it allow us to commit sin
Conclusion • Acts 17:30-31 • Lk. 13:3
