History • Involved with government lead projects related to progress tutoring commencing in 1997 and finishing 2002 • Progress file - recognised across all sectors – schools, colleges, university and even in some workplaces • MLEs for life long learning programme 01/03 partners Loughborough University, RNIB college • Commenced 2003 –completed 2005

  3. Outcomes from the project • Interoperability – transfer of data from FE to HE • Accessibility is an important aspect in order for all our students to gain access to the information but particularly so for our visually impaired students

What is eProgress File? • eProgress File is the next stage in the development of the previous paper based progress file. • Based on the DfES paper based materials now withdrawn in England. • It allows learners to reflect on their performance, develop an understanding of their skills, evaluate their abilities and plan for their future.

Loughborough College e-progress file – Problems & Solutions • Problem: Where do you start? • Solution: Discuss with partners and explore what is available before beginning to develop anything • JISC Community very helpful with this aspect • Legal advice: • Data Protection Act • Intellectual Properties • Open Source

Loughborough College e-progress file – Problems & Solutions • Problem: Web based 3t software not flexible enough • Solution: Our developer/webmaster Samuel Persse designed and developed a new structure to allow more flexibility so that we can continue to change the content to meet the needs of different users. • KS3 & 4 with schools, FE 16-19, and Adult/HE version. • Compatible with IMS UK Leap

  7. e-progress file what we achieved • Accessibility for all • Current software packages used for VI learners - JAWS & LUNA • ACCLIP standards – Display/user preference settings. • http://progressfile.loucoll.ac.uk/ • KS 3 and 4 being linked with Leicester/shire 14 – 19 Prospectus and LeCAP due to launch September 2007 • http://progresspilot.loucoll.ac.uk/rawlins/ks4 • Adult version in use with post 18 courses in the college http://progressfile.loucoll.ac.uk/adultlearners/

Loughborough College eProgress File or ePortfolio • What’s in a name? • FE perspective – Progress file well known across sector and schools • Portfolio – recognised as an assessment tool • Progress file seen as a process and development of the individual • Portfolio – end product from course • Are they associated – • Yes – progress file fits with schools and colleges and portfolio fits with HE.
