Users can send and receive updates via the web, SMS, or through desktop applications (e.g., Tweetdeck, Hootsuite, Seismic) or mobile apps (e.g., Tweetie, Echofon, Twitterific) Useful for sharing info, views, news feeds, networking More than 23.6 million U.S users, end of 2009 “Crowdsourcing,” “Citizen journalists.”
