  1. Pendulum Principles Project Team #2 Alabama Jeff Johnson Tommy Smith Victor Nichols Donna Ware

  2. Objectives: To teach the modeling process To model the properties of a pendulum especially the period

  3. Activity Timeline Day 1-2 Investigate the properties of a pendulum through an inquiry based lab where students collect data by hands-on experimentation with a pendulum

  4. Day 3 Basic information about the pendulum, uses, examples, online investigation, simple harmonic motion, research, relationships among factors influencing pendulum motion Day 4-5 Excel Basics Teach students how to use the Excel spreadsheet.

  5. Day 6 Import data from Day 1 into Excel. Play “what-if”. Examples – how would this work on another planet, graph period vs. length, other graphs, introduce theoretical formula, calculate percent error, etc.

  6. Day 7-8 Teach basics of Stella using materials from SC2000 Day 9-10 Use model of pendulum in Stella developed by Team #2 Wrap up discussion and extension activities.

  7. Assessment: Students will prepare lab reports from their hands-on activities, analyze data and graphs from Excel
