What is a genetic disorders? A genetic disorder is a disease caused by • a different form of a gene called a variation • or an alteration of a gene called a mutation
Mutations • Mutations can occur randomly or because of an environmental exposure. Ex.: Cigarette smoke
Inherited Genetic Disorders • A mutated gene can be passed down from generation to generation. • Genetic disorders can also deal with an individual having an incorrect number of genes. (ex.: Down Syndrome)
