  3. GHS Soccer Update The GHS Boys JV and Varsity Soccer swept Midland Valley teams with two shutouts last night. JV started the evening with a 6-0 victory followed with a continued domination by the Varsity team when they toppled the Mustangs 5-0! Great job, guys! Be sure to come out to the teams’ next home games, which are this Friday!

  4. Boys Tennis … … defeated Batesburg-Leesville 7-0 last night. Singles winners were: Christian Duncan, Joseph Espinoza, Grant Babin, Drew Harmon, and Tyler Craps. Doubles winners were: Duncan and Espinoza,  Ryan Busby and Taylor Dorward. The Indians are 5-1 and travel to region foe Brookland-Cayce tomorrow.

  5. Golf Update The GHS Varsity golf team traveled to Myrtle Beach this Past weekend for the Blue Jacket tournament, taking four freshmen and an eighth-grader,  and came home with the second place trophy, narrowly losing to Myrtle Beach High by a mere 2 shots.  Two members of our team had outstanding performances. Freshman Zach McLain shot a tournament low 3-under par 69 on Sunday, followed closely by Caleb Proveaux’s even-par 72.  Zach finished first overall in a strong field of over 80 players with a two-day total of 149 and Caleb was second with a 150 total for the two days. Both players eagled the finishing hole on Sunday to cap a superb weekend of play. Freshman Joseph Hardee shot a solid 82 on Sunday, and eighth-grader Jeremiah Kubilus also contributed to the team’s second-place finish.  Congratulations to the Indian Golfers on a fine effort!

State HOSA Results Congratulations to our HOSA Students who received awards at the 2013 State Leadership Conference in Charleston! *  GOLD medals:  Lexi Kalec ~ Medical Law & Ethics / Mary Reeves ~ Pathophysiology / Laken May ~ Dental Science / Rebecca McCune ~ Personal Care / Team of Alexis Ricard & Courtney Rikard ~ Health Education / Team of Abbey Bedenbaugh, Hannah Swearingen, Zach Thier, & Vicky Wills ~ HOSA Bowl / Samantha Jonas, BreAnna Price, & Laityn Shaw ~ Barbara James Service Awards with 250+ Volunteer Hours. *  SILVER medal: Hannah Goering ~ Home Health Aide. *  BRONZE medal: Aerianna Hartley ~ Physical Therapy. *  Scholarships were awarded to Lexi Kalec ($1000) & alumni Tavarus Rowe ($1000). *  Lexi Kalec was recognized as Gilbert HOSA's Outstanding Member. Gilbert High was represented well by ALL of our delegates.

  9. Congratulations to… …the GHS Play Performance Class on their performances at SCSTA Festival at Stratford High School this past weekend. Special recognition goes to Seniors Alex Corder and Kara Lutz who placed 3rd in Duet Acting and Juniors Lea Howell, Mary Jo May and Sophomore, Savannah Price who placed 2nd in Group Acting. Congratulations to all the performers who participated this past weekend!

  12. Prom 2013 Prom tickets will go on sale soon!  The cost is $30 per ticket for juniors and any senior who needs a second ticket.  Seniors will receive one free ticket.  A reminder to juniors or seniors: you may not give your ticket to another junior or senior.  Names will be written on the tickets to verify this.  Whatever you were classified at the beginning of the school year will be your classification for the prom.  You must have your ticket to enter prom! Check out the email that went out yesterday for details about the prom.

  13. SPARKLE!!! That’s what you will see this Saturday night in the GHS Theatre when 24 young ladies take the stage to compete for the title of Miss GHS 2013! Come out and support the ladies and Student Council at the Miss GHS Pageant, Saturday, March 23 at 7:00 pm in the GHS Theatre! Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for studentst.

  14. Volleyball Tournament2013 The deadline to get a team together for the 2nd Annual Volleyball Tournament is this Friday, March 22.  Coach Halloran will be in the gym and gym lobby during the assembly for you to pick up a form to get a team together.  The cost is $30.00 for a team of 6 players. All are welcome to play. Students who plan to watch the tournament -  tickets go on sale starting next week.  The cost is $5.00 a person.

  15. Attention Students! Yearbooks are on sale NOW!! If you have not bought one yet, time may be running out!!! A yearbook staff member may be contacting you to encourage you to buy one soon! See Mrs. Bentley in Room 232 for details.

  16. College Tours! On Wednesday, March 27th, Gilbert High School is taking a bus of students and 4 chaperones to USC Upstate and Spartanburg Methodist College for a tour at both institutions.    We will be leaving GHS at 8:00 a.m. and be back at GHS by 4:30 p.m.   This is the first time we have ever visited these particular schools. so take advantage of this opportunity.  It is important for students to see other schools in our state and the programs they offer.  See Mrs. Fulmer in Guidance to sign up.
