Valuch PU Choices for ADT - Plan for Run 2 14 April 2014 - LBOC Overview for one damper (ADT) Run 1: 2 PU / beam / plane Post LS1: 2 additional PU / beam / plane • Requirements for PU: • coupler type pick-ups (BPMC) choice of Q7, Q8, Q9, Q10 (as PUs available) • dedicated to ADT • high beta function (> 100 m) • low dispersion an advantage • must be in IR4, cabling to surface as short as possible
W. Hofle / G. Kotzian / D. Valuch PU Choices for ADT - Plan for Run 2 14 April 2014 - LBOC Pickups for ADT after LS1 as presented at LMC: 5th Feb 2014 v.6.503 All PUs are couplers (BPMC type) that already exist, high beta preferable

W. Hofle / G. Kotzian / D. Valuch PU Choices for ADT - Plan for Run 2 14 April 2014 - LBOC Implementation of the new proposal • ADT: extension of 4 pairs of cables from Q7 to Q8’s • Four cables on each side of IR4 to be pulled (each 55 m, 7/8”) • space available on cable trays (inspection done, M. Gasior, D. Valuch) • Proposal to swap between BI and ADT (Q8 vs Q7) • Four cables 3/8” on each side of IR4 (each 55 m) to be pulled and spliced to existing cables that end at Q8’s • BPMC.8R4, both beams, all planes were used for beam presence flag (BPF) half of signals for this will now come from the Q7’s; b-functions not relevant for BPF • BPMC.8L4 were used for developments by BI, can cope with a swap • Overall proposal means (changes in red) • BPMC.8L4.B1 H BI BPMC.8L4.B1 V ADT • BPMC.8L4.B2 H ADT BPMC.8L4.B2 V BI • BPMC.7L4.B1 H ADT BPMC.7L4.B1 V BI • BPMC.7L4.B2 H BIBPMC.7L4.B2 V ADT • BPMC.7R4.B1 H BIBPMC.7R4.B1 V ADT • BPMC.7R4.B2 H ADTBPMC.7R4.B2 V BI • BPMC.8R4.B1 H ADTBPMC.8R4.B1 V BI • BPMC.8R4.B2 H BI BPMC.8R4.B2 V ADT
W. Hofle / G. Kotzian / D. Valuch PU Choices for ADT - Plan for Run 2 14 April 2014 - LBOC Estimated improvements for ADT (1) average improvement with BI/ADT swap: 1.4 dB (17 %) “un-natural Q7”: 4R.B1.H: 23 m 4L.B1.V: 86 m 4L.B2.H: 23 m 4R.B2.V: 15 m • S/N for pick-ups (reference: 1 pick-up @ b =100 m)
W. Hofle / G. Kotzian / D. Valuch PU Choices for ADT - Plan for Run 2 14 April 2014 - LBOC Estimated improvements for ADT (2) • Kickers: improvement proportional to b1/2 • design peak kick strength 7.5 kV is 2 mrad (450 GeV/c); assumed b=100 m • cf. design impact on beam is factor 1.6 higher for H.B1, V.B1, H.B2, and 1.8 higher for V.B2 (because b’s much higher than 100 m) • cf. to run 1 optics, the new optics brings further improvement for all beams and planes
W. Hofle / G. Kotzian / D. Valuch PU Choices for ADT - Plan for Run 2 14 April 2014 - LBOC For ADT: new optics + swap of four Q7/Q8 PU planes ADT BI • improvement for pick-up signals (signal-to-noise) • improvement of maximum kick strength requires additional cabling between Q7 and Q8 8x55 m 7/8” cables to be pulled in tunnel for ADT 8x55 m 3/8” cables to be pulled in tunnel for BI Conclusion
