We are a part of the team. We will respect ourselves, others, and the environment, even when no one is looking. “Act like a champion!”

  10. Rigor: 1. I will make the work challenging and YOU CAN DO IT!!! 2. You will have to work hard, but this will prepare you for LIFE!!! 3. I expect you to finish your work on time!

  11. School - Wide Student Expectations

  12. Transition Expectations • Face forward in the direction you are traveling in a single file line. • Walk. • Voice Level 0 • Keep hands by your sides. • Walk on the right side. • Stay two feet away from the wall (use the paw trail). • Follow these expectations even when you are not with your class. • Have a pass worn properly, around the neck, if you are not with an adult.

AM Arrival Expectations • Enter building following transition expectations. • Students enter building through breezeway using the sidewalks. • Students arriving early (7:30 to 7:50) – report directly to designated area: Cafeteria or Reading Rooms. Do not go to your classrooms first. • Students arriving after 7:50, report directly to designated area unless eating breakfast. Note: the cafeteria closes at 8:00am sharp. • No supervision of students before 7:30 AM. • In the unlikely event that you arrive after 8:05, report to the front office for a tardy pass.

Inclement Weather Expectations • AM Arrival • Parent drop-offs- Enter building through doors at the 4th grade hallway. • Bus Riders- Enter building through pavilion door down the 5th grade hallway. • Transition to breakfast or the Reading Room. • Lunch • Follow your Para's instruction.. • Transition to your designated area. • PM Dismissal • Parent Pick-off- Exit through doors by the main office. • Bus Riders- Exit through pavilion doors. • Following transition expectations.

Cafeteria Expectations • Sit in the order you exit the serving line. • Talk only to other students in your immediate area using voice level 2. • Stay seated and raise your hand for help. • Keep your area neat and pick up trash when dismissed. • When dismissed, follow all transition expectations. • Do not take food items out of the cafeteria except for water in designated bag. • All issues will be documented on the behavior clipboard by school personnel.

  16. Cafeteria Guest Policy • Restaurant food may be brought in for the visiting parent and theirchildonly. • All guests must eat on the stage. • Each guest may invite ONLY their child to join them on stage for lunch. • Parents must leave when student’s lunch time is over, unless prior arrangements are made with the teacher. • Parents must adhere to their child’s lunch schedule. • Parents may not take food out of the cafeteria except for water.

  17. Bathroom Expectations • Sign in and out in classroom. (Notebook should be in clear view for walkthroughs). • Classes will take ample bathroom breaks daily. In emergencies only, if students must use the restroom, they must wear the restroom pass properly around neck. (Correct color). Please note occurrences will be documented on the clipboard. • Use voice level 1. • Take no longer than two minutes in bathroom. • Wash hands only. • Safety first! • Report all problems to an adult immediately.

  18. Outside Expectations • Stay in designated areas. • Keep hands and feet to yourself. • Safety First! • Use equipment properly and return to adult on duty. • Report all accidents or injuries to an adult immediately. • All issues will be documented on behavior clipboard by school personnel.

Dismissal Expectations • Students will wait for an adult before they are dismissed. • Students should be led by an adult and be in transition to the bus or pick up area. • When dismissed, go directly to your bus or pick up area. • At pick up area, stay seated and wait for your ride. • Use voice level 2. • Quickly move to your car when it arrives.

Assembly Expectations • Enter following transition expectations. • Sit in the order you enter assembly. • Voice Level 0 unless told otherwise by presenter. • Stay seated and raise hand for help or to participate. • Wait for teacher to dismiss and direct the class. • When dismissed, follow all transition expectations.

Parent Expectations • Ensure your child arrives at school on time daily (7:50 a.m.) • Five (5) unexcused tardies will equal one (1) unexcused absence. • Tardies will be unexcused without a doctor’s note. • Play an active role in your child’s education. • Support the school’s rules and expectations of the students. • Provide the time needed at home to support your child’s academic program. • Send your child to school prepared to learn. • Treat all citizens of SIS with respect (faculty, staff, students, and other parents). • Have HIGH EXPECTATIONS for your child for both behaviorally and academically. • Act like a CHAMPION!

Parents Rights • Parents should… • Expect the school environment to be safe and secure. • Expect the school to provide a meaningful educational opportunity. • Receive information concerning their student’s individual needs. • Respectful treatment by all SIS Citizens. • High expectations for you and your child.

  23. Tiered Behavior System

  24. Tier 1 Behaviors • unnecessary physical contact • mild insubordination • mild inappropriate language/gestures • not following school-wide expectations • classroom/lunchroom disruption • not following transition expectations • incomplete class work/homework • alleged bullying • electronic devices out of book bag • cheating

  25. Tier 1Consequences • Behavior will be documented on behavior clipboard by school personnel. • Consequences designated by classroom management plan • Citation from: • am/pm duty personnel • breakfast personnel Three (3) Tier 1 behaviors per day = Tier 2 consequence

Tier Behaviors 2 • moderate or repeated insubordination • moderate or repeated inappropriate language/gestures • inappropriate body contact/horseplay • repeated unnecessary physical contact • intimidation • Instigation Repeated bullying- *See • physical threat Protocol • repeated Tier 1 behavior • Repeated electronics out of book bag

Tier 2 Consequences • Parent contact must be documented (ie: note, phone call). • Lunch Detention after second (2) Tier 2 offense will be held by the teacher. • Electronics will be confiscated and given to administration for parent retrieval. Three (3) Tier 2 behaviors per week = Tier 3 consequence

Tier 3 Behaviors • extreme or constant insubordination • extreme or constant inappropriate language/gestures • fighting or injurious acts with malicious intent • PDA (Public Display of Affection) • unacceptable physical contact (sexual in nature) • physical threat with malicious intent • repeated Tier 2 behavior

  29. Tier 3 Consequences • Written Referral to office • After five (5) Tier 3 offenses, student is referred to the Student Support Team.

Daily Paws Expectations • In order to earn a Paw and attend the party you must do the following: • Complete Homework. • Bring/use agenda daily with parent/guardian signature. • Be in class and on task. • Be prepared with materials and supplies, including shoes for P.E. • Follow transitions and hallway expectations. • Follow school-wide expectations. • Come to school daily. Must be in school at least five (5) hours per day. • No Tier 3 offenses in a 9 weeks period. • Remain on the list after school wide teacher approval. • Students must have all library obligations satisfied by the end of each nine (9) weeks: • Overdue fines paid • Overdue books returned • Lost/damaged books fees paid

  31. Champion PAWS Rewards Each student is eligible for one (1) PAW daily (see above) with the possibility of earning 3 extra per week for a total of eight (8) per week. These PAWS will be recorded on a standard chart in student’s agenda which will be used as the entrance ticket to the PAWS Party. For example: • Homework completed all week • Agenda signed all week • Perfect Attendance all week • Special Area recognition • Above and beyond academically or socially • If lost, this Card will not be replaced.

  32. NOTICE: You will be excluded from the PAWS Party if... • You have any Tier 3 offenses in a 9 weeks. • Your name is removed from the school-wide special area teacher approval list.

  33. PAWS Rewards • The Bonus PAWS (3 per week) are at teacher discretion. • Perfect PAWS students will be recognized on a bulletin board in the school (72 PAWS). MUST HAVE PERFECT ATTENDANCE. • 45 PAWS are required to attend the PAWS Party. • 65 and above will receive extra reward/privileges at the PAWS Party ie: VIP Status.

  34. PAWS Parties • October 31– Social with DJ (PP/VIP- costumes) • February 15 – Special Presentation • April 4 – Dodge Ball Tournament • June 6 – Teacher Talent Show

  37. Act Like a Champion! • Champions: • Are positive thinkers. • “Champions have an unwavering belief that they will succeed. Do you? • Visualize their successes. • Champions understand the importance or positive mental imagery and visualization. Can you see your students succeed? • Surround themselves with positive thinkers and avoid negative influences. • Champions avoid negative people, places and things. Negativity is contagious! • Are goal setters • “If you don’t know where you are going, that is exactly where you will end up, NOWHERE! • Have a BURNING desire to succeed! • Champions want success and they WANT IT BADLY! Do you? • Are disciplined and CONSISTENT • Champions live and breathe the lifestyle all year round. We must stay the course in order to see success. • Are persistent • Champions never, EVER quit, Thomas Edison conducted 10,000 experiments before finally finding a filament that would burn in the light bulb. Do you have what it takes?

Act Like a Champion! • Champions: • Learn from their failures • Champions know that “They haven’t failed until that quit and when they quit, they have failed” DON’T GIVE UP! • Have incredible powers of focus and concentration • Champions set goals and then have a laser like focus on them. Do you have goals for this school year? • Have a deep love and boundless enthusiasm for what they do. • Champions love what they do and can wait to do it every day! Do you? If not, why? • Strive for constant and never ending improvement • Champions never settle for status quo. They aim for small improvement every day in every way. Do you expect that from your yourself and your students? • Are hard workers and willing to go the extra mile • Champions know that without hard work and action, all of these other qualities are useless. “Success is 98% perspiration and 2% inspiration!” CAN
