History: LUMHS JAMSHORO, PAKISTAN(Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences) • 1881: Started as Medical School • 1942: Raised to the status of Medical College • 1951: Named as Liaquat Medical College • 1963: Started postgraduate courses • 1965: Establishment Atomic Energy Med Centre • 1967: Functioning of Eye Hospital • 2001: Up-gradation to the Medical University Inayat U Memon

PURPOSE AND BACKGROUND: • To train physicians to address emerging bioethical issues • To respond to the public awareness about patients’ rights and human rights in general To accomplish above objects we need to train medical graduates and PGs in the field of bioethics • To develop appropriate curriculum for graduate and postgraduate studies • To ascertain Base-line knowledge of Bioethics Inayat U Memon

  8. METHODOLOGY: • 15 item questionnaire was developed • Administered on 74 PGs of various departments of LUMHS. • Obs/Gynae, Int. Medicine, Paed. Medicine, G. Surgery, Radiology, Anaesthesiology. Inayat U Memon

DISCUSSION: • High frequency of encountering Ethical dilemmas (72% at least once a month) • Relatively low rate of correct recognition of ethical dilemmas (43%), needs to train them in Bioethics • Problem of Invisible and Inactive Ethical Committees, needs to addressed • Relative unawareness of current Bioethical issue (Euthanasia: 54%, Nuremberg Code: 34%) AND • Positive insight and desire to learn bioethics (92%) • Provide fertile atmosphere to TEACH BIOETHICS Inayat U Memon
