  2. What is a triplet roll? • A triplet roll is comprised of two key elements. • An eighth note triplet skeleton. • Sixteenth note diddles on each eighth note of the triplet skeleton. • Click on the icon below to hear an example of a triplet roll.

  3. How do we prepare for the triplet roll? • We must identify the eighth note triplet • We must identify the sixteenth note diddle Eight Note Triplet 16th Note Diddle

Where is the triplet roll? • There are several examples of the triplet roll within your drum book for this year. • As shown on the right, there are several examples of the triplet roll and how it is utilized within your music. • Regardless of what piece of music we are playing, the triplet roll will be played the same way in terms of rhythmic content. • Dynamics, tempo, and texture will change over the course of each piece of music for our show, but the core structure of the triplet roll will stay the same.

  6. How do we “clean” triplet rolls? • Understand that the skeleton of the roll is eight note triplets • Realize that 16th note diddles are imposed on that skeleton • Utilize our exercise packet • Ensemble rehearsal time • Individual practice time • Sub-sectional rehearsal time

  7. Here are some exercise examples involving triplet rolls Notice that both of these exercises are in different meter signatures. It is possible to have triplet rolls in all meter signatures!!!
