SMART, GREEN AND INTEGRATED TRANSPORT Horizon 2020 will provide funding for a resource efficient transport that respects the environment by making aircraft, vehicles and vessels cleaner and quieter to minimise transport’s systems’s impact on climate and the environment, by developing smart equipment, infrastructures and services and by improving transport and mobility in urban areas. Horizon 2020 also aims at a better mobility, less congestion, more safety and security with a substantial reduction of traffic congestion; with a substantial improvement in the mobility of people and freight; by developing new concepts of freight transport and logistics and by reducing accident rates, fatalities and casualties and improving security. Horizon 2020 supports a global leadership for the European transport industry by reinforcing the competitiveness and performance of European transport manufacturing industries and related services including logistic processes and retain areas of European leadership (e.g. such as aeronautics). Horizon 2020 targets asocio-economic and behavioural research and forward looking activities for policy making. The aim is to support improved policy making which is necessary to promote innovation and meet the challenges raised by transport and the societal needs related to it. These activities are addressed in this Work Programme by three Calls for proposals: Mobility for Growth Green Vehicles Small Business and Fast Track Innovation for Transport
Climate Action, Environment, Resource Efficiency and Raw Materials Activities in this Challenge will help increase European competitiveness, raw materials security and improve wellbeing. At the same time they will assure environmental integrity, resilience and sustainability with the aim of keeping average global warming below 2° C and enabling ecosystems and society to adapt to climate change and other environmental changes. This Challenge funds research and innovation with the following specific objectives: to achieve a resource – and water - efficient and climate change resilient economy and society, the protection and sustainable management of natural resources and ecosystems, and a sustainable supply and use of raw materials, in order to meet the needs of a growing global population within the sustainable limits of the planet's natural resources and eco-systems. ERC– Starting Grant Project: Bioengineering prediction of three-dimensional vascular growth and remodeling in embryonic great-vessel development Project acronym: VASCULARGROWTH Researcher (PI): Kerem Pekkan Host institution (HI): KOC UNIVERSITY, TURKEY Call details: ERC-2012-StG, PE8 Max ERC funding: 2 million Euros Website (HI): http://www.ku.edu.tr Duration: 60 months
ERC – Starting Grant Summary: Globally 1 in 100 children are born with significant congenital heart defects (CHD), representing either new genetic mutations or epigenetic insults that alter cardiac morphogenesis in utero. Embryonic CV systems dynamically regulate structure and function over very short time periods throughout morphogenesis and that biomechanical loading conditions within the heart and great-vessels alter morphogenesis and gene expression. This proposal has structured around a common goal of developing a comprehensive and predictive understanding of the biomechanics and regulation of great-vessel development and its plasticity in response to clinically relevant epigenetic changes in loading conditions. Biomechanical regulation of vascular morphogenesis, including potential aortic arch (AA) reversibility or plasticity after epigenetic events relevant to human CHD are investigated using multimodal experiments in the chick embryo that investigate normal AA growth and remodelling, microsurgical instrumentation that alter ventricular and vascular blood flow loading during critical periods in AA morphogenesis. WP 1 establishes our novel optimization framework, incorporates basic input/output in vivo data sets, and validates. In WP 2 and 3 the numerical models for perturbed biomechanical environment and incorporate new objective functions that have in vivo structural data inputs and predict changes in structure and function. WP 4 incorporates candidate genes and pathways during normal and experimentally altered AA morphogenesis. This proposal develops and validates the first in vivo morphomechanics-integrated three-dimensional mathematical models of AA growth and remodelling that can predict normal growth patterns and abnormal vascular adaptations common in CHD. Multidisciplinary application of bioengineering principles to CHD is likely to provide novel insights and paradigms towards our long-term goal of optimizing CHD interventions, outcomes, and the potential for preventive strategies.

Societal Challanges PHC 25 – 2015: Advanced ICT systems and services for Integrated Care Specific Challange:Research on new models of care organisation demonstrates that advanced ICT systems and services may have the potential to respond to, amongst others, the increasing burden of chronic disease and the complexity of co-morbidities and in doing so contribute to the sustainability of health and care systems……………… Scope:Proposals should go beyond the current state of art in tele-health and tele-care systems by developing new approaches for integrated care supported by ICT systems and services. Proposals should address barriers from technological, social and organisational points of view in the following domains: • Development of robust, privacy compliant, accurate and cost-effective systems that facilitate monitoring of patient status, patient activity and compliance with therapy; • Fusion, analysis and interpretation of patient and care provider data, to improve decision making among formal and informal care givers and patients; • Multi-channel and multi-actor interaction and exchange of knowledge in integrated care settings, across digital collaborative platforms; • …………………………………. Expected impact: • Strengthened evidence base on health outcomes, quality of life and care efficiency gains from the use of ICT in integrated care. • Improved cooperation and secure information exchange among the actors involved in health, social and informal care services. • Improved interaction between patients and their careers, and more active participation of patients and their relatives or other informal care givers in care processes. • Reinforced medical knowledge with respect to management of co-morbidities. • ………………………………… Type of action: Research & Innovation Actions
Leadership in Enabling and Industrial Technologies (LEIT) CALL for EeB – ENERGY-EFFICIENT BUILDINGS (page 92) • EeB 1 – 2014: Materials for building envelope (page 93) • Deadline Date: 2014-03-20, Call Web Site ÖRNEK ÇAĞRILAR
Industrial Leadership- LEITEnergy-efficient BuildingsEeB 1 – 2014: Materials for building envelope Specific Challange:When improving the level of energy performance of buildings in operation, embodied energy in materials presents an increasingly high percentage of the energy spent in the whole life cycle of a building. The same applies for CO2. Therefore, the development of new sustainable construction materials with lower embodied energy and lower CO2 emissions is needed…………….. Scope:Proposals should address the development of new materials and/or solutions for building envelope components with reduced embodied energy, lower CO2 emissions and improved insulation properties during operation. The new components may also contribute to improve indoor air quality, by limiting VOCs emissions and/or by advanced properties aiming to absorb and biodegrade indoor contaminants. The proposed solutions should go well beyond the state of the art and take into account the final performance properties of the new materials and of the respective building components………………….. Expected impact:Compared to state of the art materials and components, the newly developed materials should bring: • Reduction by at least 30% of the embodied energy and CO2 at component level; • Improvement by at least 20% of insulation properties; • Reduction by at least 15% of the total costs compared to existing solutions; • Demonstration of at least a 5% reduction of the energy spent during the whole life cycle of a building; • Improvement of the quality of information from product manufacturers to facilitate better decision making; • Strengthening of the competitiveness of the European construction sector in the field of “green” construction technologies. Type of action:Innovation Actions.
