Risk Factors • uneven ground • previous untreated ankle injuries • being overweight • poorly fitting or worn out shoes
Degree of Severity Grade I - ligaments stretched not actually torn Grade II - partial tear Grade III - most severe with ligament completely torn and a lot of joint instability
Ligaments providing stability • anterior talo-fibular ligament ATFL (goes from the talus to the fibula) • calcaneo-fibular ligament (goes from the calcaneus to the fibula) • posterior talo-fibular ligament PTFL (goes from the talus to the fibula).
