Predicting • Predicting is guessing what is going to happen next. • Predicting makes the reader keep reading. • Example: Grandma didn’t hear the timer for the oven to take the cookies out. She came down an hour later. Grandma gasped. What did Grandma see? Some people would predict that the house is on fire. Other people would predict that the cookies were burnt. • Peoples predictions are different because they have different schema. Schema is the things you know, the knowledge you have.
Inferring • Inferring is like putting clues together to see the big picture. • For Example: The girl is smiling…- Inference: She is happy!
Synthesizing • Synthesizing is taking something (book or song, etc.) and turning it into you own creation. • For example into
Questioning • Questioning keeps the reader reading to figure out what the answer to their question is. • Authors use questioning to keep them reading. • A great book that makes you question a lot is Tuck Everlasting By: Natalie Babbitt.
Visualizing • Visualizing is picturing what is going on in the story, song, etc. • Example: A man walked into a cottage, turned on his stereo, and started dancing. Some might visualize and old man walking into a cottage made of wood and straw, turn music on, and dance to a slow song with his wife.
