Components tested so far • Ventilators 1st sign stop • VME Fan-tray 80 120 Gauss • PL500 big vent • outside box 80 120 Gauss • inside box 100 180 Gauss • PL500 small vent • outside box 50 90 • inside box (extrapolated) 70 120 Gauss • Transformers • PL500 PS 300 350 Gauss • Ethernet isolation transf. ? 200 Gauss • Electro valves • 4 types used in gas systems 300 400 Gauss • Relays ? • Filters ?
Test of ventilators PAPST 614MN outside PS cabinet Fan restarts Fan stops PAPST 614MN inside PS cabinet
Tests to be done • At P2 with L3 & Muon magnets powered • Stray field measurements in the UX: H.Taureg • At critical rack locations, outside/inside racks • Equipment functionality tests: detector groups • Inside L3 magnet and in the UX • When: • End July 2004 • Test of devices in Magnet test facilities • Any device that might be sensitive to low B-fields: • Power supplies, ethernet devices, etc • When: • Start in May 2004
Power distribution & Racks • No rack ventilator units possible (except in zone C) Power limited to ~ 3 kW per rack See: http://documents.cern.ch//archive/electronic/cern/groupdoc/epess/public/epess-2003-014.pdf all ux rack users to check and adapt their rack layout !
PLC’s • PLC’s have relays and transformers but no ventilators • Probably ok for >200 Gauss • Should nevertheless be checked
Ethernet • Detector groups to precise to integration team (J-P.Vanuxem) in which racks and for what equipment ethernet is required.
Other equipment • UX users to check/test any other equipment which might be sensitive to B-field. • Test facilities at CERN: • TA1 Magnet Lab B-168 • Gap ~ 25 cm reservation: W.Flegel, PH/TA3 • CMS Magnet Lab B-887 • Gap ~ 50cm reservation: B.Cure, PH/CMI • dipole in T7 beam-line, east hall • Gap ? reservation: SPS coordinator • GOLIATH dipole in H4 beam-line • Gap ? reservation: SPS coordinator • CMS magnet in B-887 already reserved 10 – 21 May for ALICE and PH/ESS use
Summary • Stray field measurements will be done at P2 in July – August to refine the B-map Action: TC (H.Taureg) • Equipment tests will be started in May at CERN test facilities to verify B-sensitivity • Commonly used devices: Action:CERN groups + TRD • Specific detector devices: Action:detector groups • Rack layouts to be adapted in view of water cooling only (racks without ventilator units) Action: all UX rack users • Move B-sensitive equipment to less exposed racks wherever possible Action: detector users
