The Southern,Middle & New England Colonies The southern colonies were founded because Lord Baltimore was motivated both by the desire to create a refuge for roman Catholics who were still being persecuted in protestant England. The New England colonies were founded because Christopher Columbus wanted to know if the world was round or flat. So he searched dead on. The Middle colonies were founded because when Sweden became part of the Netherlands,they named it Delaware.The Netherlands were changed again and named New York in honor of the Duke.Once more the Netherlands were named New Jersey..

The Key Founding Fathers • Peter Minuit was a founding father because he founded more than one Colony. • He founded the colony Delaware and the colony New York.
During the colonial period, all the colonies shared there daily life as maids,slaves and farmers.The maids tended to be women,and the slaves could have been either man,woman or child.When they had slaves,they were severe and harsh towards them. Daily Life in Colonial History
Most New England colonists were puritans ,and they lead very strict lives. The Middle colonies were harsh and they involved severe cruelty and they made there own clothes. The Southern colonies went fishing,hunting ,collected lumber,and not very good farming because soil was rocky. Religion Development
In the middle colonies most slaves worked as field hands. The New England colonists knew that the African Americans arrived at Jamestown in 1619. They were brought as servants,not slaves,then they became their slaves. Slavery attitudes
