  4. Birthdays • Room 31 will celebrate all birthdays on the last school day of the month • ex: Thursday, September 30th • Non-edible treats only • Pencils, Bouncy Balls, Notepads • Summer Birthdays • Celebrated at the end of the year

Project Cornerstone • Objectives • To encourange adult role models to connect with students in the classroom • To develop a common language around problem solving throughout our community including students, teachers and parents • Lessons: self-confidence, peaceful conflict resolution, how to be a good friend, how to follow your dreams • What can I do as a parent? • Letters will go home every month after a lesson • Have a conversation with your child • Incorporate P.C. language into your life at home

  6. Project Cornerstone cont’d • Parent Volunteer • Once a month for 3 hours • 1 hour for preparation • 1 hour for the in - class lesson • 1 hour training/instructional meeting with Soma • Contact Soma @ soma.mccandless@gmail.com

  7. Walk-A-Thon • Saturday, October 2nd 9 am-4 pm • Last year $96,000 was raised • T-shirts for students are free, orders due Sept 3rd • Money Collection starts October 7th, donations are due back October 22nd • Awards assembly is on November 19th

Walk-A-Thon cont’d • Make a simple classroom flag to be walked around the track •Before Walk-A-Thon: Set up, Basket Preparation, T-Shirt Packaging, Prize Donations, Bake Sale Preparation and much more! • During Walk-A-Thon: Bake Sale, First Aid, Food Pick up and Servers, Punching lap cards, T-Shirts, Refreshments • After Walk-A-Thon: Lap Recorders, Proceeds Counters, Thank You Notes & Certificates • More detailed information on the pink Walk-A-Thon flyer

  9. Parent-Teacher Conferences • October 7-15 (Thursday-Friday) • Early Morning Kindergarten Schedule continues as usual • Grades 1-5 dismissed at 12:30 M-F • Lunch at 11:15-11:45 • Time to set goals for child • Discuss areas of strength and areas of need

  10. Thursday Envelopes • Envelopes go home on Thursdays • Contains homework folder and child’s completed work from the past week • Please praise child for his/her hard work and go over corrections • Envelopes should be returned on Fridays

  11. Gardening Club • Once a month • Planting flowers and vegetables in the garden • Parent led program focused on natural science • Proceeds are donated to Sunnyvale Community Services • List to sign up posted outside the door!

  12. Closing • Feel free to look around the classroom • Don’t forget to write a message back to your student on the back of their letters to you!
