CLASS INFORMATION • Please REGISTER on the SJPS website! • Newsletters will be posted to my web site every  A Day • Please check my website at least every week to stay up to date on all activities and assignments. • ALL important information will be posted on our class calendar. Please check it carefully! • Photos of our parties and events will be uploaded for you to view!

Helping Hands/Leaders • Attendance • Line Leader • Snack Helper • Sharing • My Helper Snacks • Individualized in packages (or baggies) • Nutritious Snacks • No cupcakes, doughnuts, cookies • Try to avoid chocolate • We do not need drink • 30 servings Birthdays • Birthdays are very important to children. We will celebrate each birthday near the closest day. • Summer birthdays will be celebrated at the half year. • Please do not send birthday invitations to school to be passed out.

4. Attendance • Call the secretary if you know your child will be absent • Your child must be fever free for 24 hours before returning • Check in at the office if you are tardy • Send a note if there is a change in transportation or if you know your child will be absent DISMISSAL is at 3:45 • Please do not come to the classroom to pick-up your child. Your child will be dismissed by me and will meet you in the cross hall or by the Garden Lane entrance. • Drop-off for Kindergarten is at the front of the school. Children are to go directly to the playground and will enter the school at 8:25.

The cost of Field trips is $5 per child/$10 per family.

8. 6 DAY SCHEDULE(Please check calendars carefully) • Our school has adopted a 6-day cycle for instructional scheduling. Rather than a Monday to Friday schedule, we will operate on an A through F day schedule. This allows for a more equalized scheduling of the special subjects (music, library, art, gym). • The letter day schedule will rotate through the school calendar, taking into account in-service days and holidays. • Please contact me if you have any questions about the specific daily schedule A DAY – ART B DAY – MUSIC and SOCIAL WORK C DAY – PE D Day – ART E DAY- PE F DAY-PE AND MUSIC (Your child must wear gym shoes on PE days)

9. RECESS Your child will have 3 recesses everyday, weather permitting. Please dress your child appropriately for the weather. SCIENCE/HEALTH Battle Creek Math and Science • Senses • My Earth • Kindergarten in Motion • Alive: What Living Things Are SOCIAL STUDIES • Weekly Reader News & Discussions • Story books and Discussion • Emphasis on community, citizenship, rules, etc.. • Social Worker, Mrs. Fairchild, visits each cycle MATH • Count to 100 & Recognizing numbers to 100 • Write Numbers to 50 • Counts by 10’s and 5’s to 100 • Money • Time to the hour • Add to 10 • Sorting, Graphing, and Patterning • Hands-on using a variety of manipulatives • Estimation Jar take home activity • B.U.I.L.D. Math Centers

11. Homework • Read to your child everyday • Pizza Hut Book-It begins in October and ends in March Your child must read 10 books a month to receive the pizza coupon • Homework calendars are sent home at the beginning of each month and due at the end of each month. You need to complete at least 3 activities a week. Work does not need to be returned to school. • IXL Computer Math • Raz-kids Reading • At home reading program – TBA

12. Assessments Individual Kindergarten Assessment- 4x a year Assesses students on letters, sounds, color words, sight words, shapes, numbers, patterns, rhyming, counting, etc. Running Records NWEA 2 times a year Report Cards every trimester will reflect the results of the assessments. Conferences in November and March to review and discuss your child’s progress. Ongoing Observations

THINGS TO WORK ON AT HOME Shoe Tying Dressing Self Snowsuit/Boots Writing Name, Phone Number, & Address Birthday (Month & Date) Your extra help at home really makes a difference DON’T FORGET You may send a water bottle to school with your child every day, please fill with WATER only Label everything Lost & Found-in the cross hall Send and check your child’s folder everyday Don't believe everything that comes from school to home. Call or email me if you have any questions or concerns VOLUNTEERS NEEDED If you'd like to volunteer in our room please fill out and return the volunteer form
