  7. Senior Lead Officers • Full-time community activists and problem solvers. • Basic Car Coordinator (77th Street has 11 Basic Cars). • Peer Leader. • Field Training Officer. • Neighborhood Watch Coordinator.

  8. Community-Police Advisory Board (C-PAB) • The mission of the C-PAB is to mobilize the community, promote community policing and enhance relationship between the 77th Street community and the police department. • Members are drawn from residents, business owners/operators and existing community based organizations and other stakeholders. • Meetings are held monthly. • Currently, 77th Street C-PAB has 35 active members.

  9. 77th Street Clergy Council • The mission of the Clergy Council is to create a partnership between local churches and the police department to enhance relationships while also promoting community policing. • Members are drawn from local churches without regard to denomination. • Meetings are held monthly. • Currently, 77th Street Clergy Council has 20 active members.

  10. Hispanic Outreach • The mission of the Hispanic Outreach is to strengthen the partnership between the Hispanic community and the police department. • 77th Street Area currently holds monthly Hispanic Outreach meetings at the station at which current crime trends are discussed as well as crime prevention strategies. These monthly meetings are also used to educate the community on police procedures. • 77th Street Area also conducts Hispanic Outreach programs at two local catholic churches where crime trends and crime prevention strategies are discussed. • This year, 77th Street Area has begun partnering with the local school district to discuss crime at their monthly parent meetings

  11. Young Adult’s Outreach • The mission of the Young Adult Outreach is to strengthen the relationship between the youth in the community and the police department. • 77th Street Area has partnered with students from West Los Angeles College’s Criminal Justice Club. • The group meets monthly to discuss current issues involving the relationship between community youth and the police and to discuss ways to improve this relationship. • The West Los Angeles Criminal Justice Club currently has a membership of approximately 40 students.

  12. Business Outreach • The mission of the Business Outreach is to promote a positive partnership between the business community and the police department. • The group meets monthly to discuss general crime trends as well as those crimes that are unique to businesses. • At the meeting, crime prevention strategies are discussed as well as best practices. • Currently, approximately 20 businesses are represented but growing.

  13. 77th Street Foundation • The 77th Street Foundation is a newly created non-profit organization that is comprised of business organizations interested in philanthropic endeavors targeting the youth in 77th Street Area. • The 77th Street Foundation will raise monies to fund the various youth programs being conducted by 77th Street Area as well as hopefully providing future scholarships to qualified individuals.

  14. School Enrichment Program • This program encourages young students to be good citizens and to obey the law. This is done by police officers promoting positive messages at school assemblies with the assistance of a young rapper as well as exposing the students to poetry and positive messages. • Currently, this program is at each elementary school within 77th Street Area. The officers attend two assemblies at each school and there is a culmination assembly for students nominated by their teachers as being good role models.

  15. 77th Street Cadets (Explorers) • This program provides insight to those who would like to pursue a career in Law Enforcement. Cadets are given the proper framework to develop a sharp mind and physically fit body. Using a paramilitary structure, these uniformed volunteers work side by side with Police Officers on real police assignments. Cadets also develop a better understanding of our local form of government and learn the responsibilities as a citizen. • Open to youths between the ages of 14 and 21. • Currently, 77th Street Area’s Cadet program has approximately 70 members .

  16. Police Activity League (PAL) • The mission of the PAL program is to reduce juvenile crime and delinquency by uniting Law Enforcement Officers and youth through quality activities designed to develop discipline self esteem, mutual trust and respect. The goal is to have youth involved in a variety of athletic activities that promote discipline, self esteem and emphasize respect for the sports and others. • Currently, 77th Street Area has a basketball program involving ten teams and assists in managing a youth football program.

  17. Jeopardy • The program identifies children who are at high risk in becoming involved in the dangers of a delinquent lifestyle. "High risk" usually includes one or more of the following; minor arrests, gang activity, truancy citations, runaways, and/or unstable home life. The program provides the kids with the guidance and activities that will instill self-esteem and discipline; therefore giving the child a more positive and productive role in our society. Most referrals are received from Police Officers, schools, parents, and Juvenile court. • The 77th Street Area Jeopardy program currently involves karate classes and an arts/drama program.

  18. Juvenile Impact Program • The Juvenile Impact Program is designed for first-time offenders referred by the courts. The program requires the juvenile to admit to their offense and the impact the crime caused. The juvenile then participates in a mini "boot camp“ staffed by police officers, paints over existing graffiti, completes a self-esteem class, and is "scared straight" by a group discussion led by several ex-convicts. The parents are also required to participate and attend a parenting class that runs concurrent with the “boot camp”. • 77th Street Area runs two 12-week “boot camps” a year. Each camp is attended by approximately 70 children.

  19. Social Media • This is a new area being explored by 77th Street Area and the Department. • Nixle: 77th Street just began operating a Nixle site. Nixle is a program that sends out crime information or community alerts via cellular telephone text and/or e-mail. The text is limited to 140 characters but the subscriber is given a link for more detailed information. • Twitter: 77th Street is exploring the use of this media to keep area residents apprised of current events involving 77th Street Area.

  20. Development of Officers • Community members speaking at the monthly orientation meetings. • Incorporation of patrol officers in Neighborhood Block Club meetings and events. • Incorporation of patrol officers in the School Enrichment program. • Encouraging volunteers to assist in the station. • Annual Officer Appreciation luncheon hosted by the C-PAB.
