Please read your child’s hope and dream. Then create your own hope and dream for your child this school year.

Specials Schedule • Monday: COMPUTER LAB, PE, LIBRARY • Tuesday: SEARCH/GUIDANCE, MUSIC • Wednesday: PE • Thursday: PE, MUSIC • Friday: ART • Lunch: 12:25 – 12:55 • Recess every day
Snacks • Healthy snack • Fruit, vegetables, grains • No candy • No nuts • Late lunch • Nutritious and substantial snack to help focus
Homework • Homework is a nightly 20-30 minute process • Read 20 minutes – Reading Log • Projects • IXL, Renzulli Learning, and word study homework is available
Homework • No Homework Binder for conference records • No Homework slip sent home • Word Study homework given as deemed necessary
Field Trips • Parent volunteers for students with Epi-pens • 2 field trips • Mount Vernon – Thursday, October 25th • Native Lands – spring • Link to Native Lands will be on third grade website
Parties • No baked goods • Room parent volunteers • Winter party – December 20th • Ancient Civilizations Day • End of the year party
Reading A balanced or comprehensive literacy approach is used. This includes shared reading, guided reading and independent reading as well as read-alouds, literature study and explicit skills lessons. The Skills include the following: 1)Connecting 2)Predicting 3)Questioning 4)Inferring 5)Synthesizing/Visualization 6)Evaluating/Applying
Writing • Writing Students write for many purposes with emphasis on explanatory and descriptive writing. Students also practice basic research skills, with an emphasis on information collection, summary and paraphrasing and identifying resources. • Grammar Usage & Mechanics • Word Study Approach Discovering patterns, rules and meaning. • Cursive Writing
