TRANSFORMATION/REVITALISATION LETABA-LEVUVHU AND LIMPOPO WMAs • LIMPOPO WMA • Nzhelele WUA • 12 schemes were transformed into WUA-Revitilization process • Department of Agriculture currently on the process of revitilizing schemes • Nzhelele GWS transformed into WUA • Houtenbrak WUA • Not yet transformed. • Members no longer interested.
TRANSFORMATION/REVITILIZATION CON.. • Mokolo IB • Major stakeholders withdrew from the process • IB , Alma and Vaalwater water forums agreed to proceed with the establishment. • Glen Alpine/Sterkrivier GWS • Not yet transformed • Final process of drafting the Proposal and Constitution. • Nwanwedi /Luphephe new establishment • Submmittion of the TOR for approval.
TRANSFORMATION/REVITILIZATION • Vhembe WUA new establishment • Drafting of the Proposal and Constitution. • LETABA/LEVUVHU WMA • Mutale and Mutshimbwe WUA • Management Committee(MC) in place • Gender issue addressed • Business Plan workshop and support • Leason learning visit to Oranje Riet WUA
TRANSFORMATION/REVITILIZATION • Middle Letaba WUA • Election for MC held successful on 7th December 2006 • Excom nomination scheduled early 2007 • Luvuvhu WUA • Proposal awaits appraisal • N’wamitwa WUA • Proposal awaits approval
CO-OPERATION WITH DEPT OF AGRICULTURE. • Working closely with Agriculture on revitilisation of schemes at Nzhelele, Mutshimbwe and Mutale. • Attended meetings with the Department to inform members about the revitilization progress.
SUPPORT REQUIREMENTS • Strategic intervention-such as investigation on lack of interest among water users to become members of WUA. • Investigation on stakeholders participation • Support in securing political buy in. • Provide more information on other similar process.
CAPACITY BUILDING • Project to be approved-Nwanwedi /Luphephe. • Ongoing PP and information sharing about water resources related issues to the Local Municipalities on both WMAs. • HO to appoint PSP to conduct capacity building at Nzhelele, Mutshimbwe and Mutale.
CHALLENGES • Capacity building for farmers • Involvement of women & youth • Uneducated (Resource Poor) farmers • Poorly maintained infrastructure • Illegal water use – need verification & validation • Reimbursement of members of WUAs. • Policy gap on voluntary membership.
