  1. “Guess Who?” • Part 2 - ‘Who is the Holy Spirit?’

  2. The Holy Spirit Is a Person • HE SPEAKS • Revelation 2:7 (NIV) Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. • Acts 13:2 (NIV) While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

  3. HE INTERCEDES • Romans 8:26 (NIV) In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

  4. HE TESTIFIES • John 15:26 (NIV) “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from theFather—he will testify about me.

  5. HE LEADS • Acts 8:29 (NIV) The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” • Romans 8:14 (NIV) For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.

  6. HE COMMANDS • Acts 16:6–7 (NIV) Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to.

  7. HE GUIDES • John 16:13 (NIV) But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth.

  8. HE APPOINTS • Acts 20:28 (NIV) Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.

  9. HE CAN BE LIED TO • Acts 5:3–4 (NIV) Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”

  10. HE CAN BE INSULTED • Hebrews 10:29 (NIV) How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?

  11. HE CAN BE BLASPHEMED • Matthew 12:31–32 (NIV) And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.

  12. HE CAN BE GRIEVED • Ephesians 4:30 (NIV) And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

  13. The Holy Spirit Is a Divine Person: • He Is God!

  14. HE IS ETERNAL • This means that there never was a time when He was not. • Hebrews 9:14 (NIV) How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

  15. HE IS ALL-POWERFUL • Luke 1:35 (NIV) The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

  16. HE IS OMNIPRESENT • He is everywhere present at the same time. • Psalm 139:7 (NIV) Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?

  17. HE IS OMNISCIENT • He is all-knowing. • 1 Corinthians 2:10–11 (NIV) These are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

  18. HE IS CALLED GOD • Acts 5:3–4 (NIV) Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”

  19. HE IS CALLED GOD • 2 Corinthians 3:18 (NIV) And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

  20. The Holy Spirit and the Trinity • Genesis 1:1 (NIV) In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. • Hebrew scholars demonstrate that there are three numbers in the Hebrew language: Singular, one; dual, two; plural, more than two.

  21. Genesis 1:26 (NIV) Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

  22. Isaiah 6:8 (NIV) Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

  23. 2 Corinthians 13:14 (NIV) May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

  24. There is nothing that God is that the Holy Spirit is not. • All of the essential aspects of deity belong to the Holy Spirit. • We can say of Him exactly what was said of Jesus Christ in the ancient Nicene Creed: He is very God of very God! So we bow before Him, we worship Him, we accord Him every response Scripture requires, of our relationship to Almighty God.
