  3. How It Works • Uses a small computer embedded in the dash board. • The unit is called the “Sensing Diagnostic Unit” (SDM) • Makes use of sensors places around the car

  4. Whats It For? • Helps emergency dispatcher know the nature of the accident • Calculates the number of people in the car • If there were any children

  5. Accident Time • Uses a scaled issued by the NHTSA to measure severity of the accident • Transmits the information to an OnStar representative • Who then calls the Emergency units

  6. Safety or Privacy • Any car with an AACN unit can be located at any given time • Government agencies may gather this data or use the system inappropriately • Consumers may begin to use this information in court

  7. When • Some time in 2003 and 2004 • Chevy Trailblazers and Malibu • GMC Envoy and Oldsmobile Bravada • Use of the system will be $16.95 per month
