Students will learn functional reading and writing skills that can be applied to real world situations.
All three 7th grade Language Arts teachers plan instruction together, resulting in a program that is consistent across the grade level.

Classroom When students arrive to class: Line-up outside my door They come in, grab their folders, and they starts completing their bellringer/journal (on the Promethean Board, on the whiteboard, or a handout). Look at agenda on the board

Textbooks We use various textbooks and outside material to teach reading and grammar. These include Glencoe Language and Grammar, Realms of Gold, Glencoe Writer’s Choice, and Glencoe Literature Book, as well as other literature sources.

Reading We read writing from various genres, including fiction, nonfiction, essays, plays, poetry, and short stories. We will be reading Julius Caesar by Shakespeare and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Grammar Grammar is essential to writing and we will cover all the conventions of the English language this year. No grammar books.
Your children will complete many different types of writing projects this year, including pieces of persuasive, expository, descriptive, and narrative writing. They will write poetry as well.
Book Reports Each student will also complete 6 book reports throughout the year. The first book report is due on October 4th and it will be a free pick. The guidelines for this report will be given out within the next week. For now, students should start by choosing a novel to use for this project. Each book report is due the first Friday of every month.
