  1. WELCOME TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF WATER Click anywhere to go to the next screen. Kathryn McDowell

  2. Here’s How We Use the Buttons! Use this one to go backwards! Use this one to go forwards! Click on the forward arrow right above me. Use this one to return to the home page…I’ll show you where that is in a minute!

  3. I’m Rainy, a raindrop from the sky! I am here to teach you all about me and the CRAZY trip I am on! We have learned all about the weather and how it changes with the seasons. Here’s something NEW! about the weather and water!

  4. Water has been around FOREVER The same water we drink was around when the dinosaurs were around so long ago. How can that be? Can you believe I’m so old?

  5. Water is on a cycle The definition of a cycle is any complete round or series of occurrences that is repeated. 9 This means the same water is going around and around, over and over. The Earth only has so much water.

  6. There are 4 main parts to The Water Cycle Try sounding out these words. They look hard, but I bet you can do it!

  7. The Water Cycle This is your home page. To get back to this, click on the house in the corner. Click on one of the 4 words in the circle to go to each section. Condensation Evaporation Precipitation Collection Click here when you’re finished with the cycle

  8. EvaporationAnd Transpiration How does water from lakes and oceans get into the air and sky? 1

  9. Evaporation When the sun heats up water in lakes and oceans, the water turns from liquid to gas. It leaves as steam and goes up into the sky!

  10. Evaporation I change form all the time! If I’m really cold, I’m a solid, or an ice cube! If I’m in the middle, I’m liquid water. When I’m really hot, I’m gas! You might think I’m invisible, but I’m just flying in the sky!

  11. Evaporation Plants also lose water and it goes into the air. This is a special way called transpiration. It’s kind of like people sweating, but plants do it through their leaves. 2

  12. Evaporation In this section, we learned evaporation and transpiration. Click on the home symbol to go to another part of the water cycle!

  13. Condensation There is always a little water in the air. Sometimes it is invisible because it is a gas or water vapor. 4

  14. Condensation When the water in the air gets colder and there is a lot of it, it starts to turn back into a liquid. Do you know what forms in the sky by a group of water droplets?

  15. Condensation CLOUDS! That’s right! Clouds form when the gas turns into a liquid. Fog is also condensation. Fog is clouds that are close to the ground.

  16. Condensation You can think about condensation in another way—where do water drops come from on the outside of a glass of ice water? Not from inside, but from the air—it’s the same in the sky!

  17. Condensation In this section, we’ve learned about condensation and where clouds come from. Click on the home symbol to find out about another part of the water cycle!

  18. Precipitation When you look up in the sky, you can see clouds! What happens when the clouds get dark or there are a bunch of them?

  19. Precipitation That’s right! It rains! Rain is a form of precipitation. Precipitation is when there is so much liquid water in the air that the clouds have to let go of it and it drops to the Earth.

  20. Precipitation We just said rain was a form of precipitation… Can you think of any other forms of precipitation?

  21. Precipitation 5 These are all forms of precipitation. Rain…just like me! 6 sleet 7 8 hail snow

  22. Precipitation You’ve completed precipitation. We talked about how precipitation happens and what different forms of precipitation are. Click on the home icon to go to the next part of the water cycle and find out more about me.

  23. Collection When you look around the world, you can see areas where lots of water come together. Can you name a couple places where water collects, or accumulates?

  24. Collection Lakes, oceans, ponds, and rivers are all examples of collection. All the precipitation that falls has to go somewhere, so it collects in one of these places.

  25. Collection There is also a secret hidden place where water collects, and it is right underneath our building!

  26. Collection Ground Water! Water that is absorbed by the soil is called ground water. Plants use it through their roots. We use it, too, through water wells!

  27. Collection We’ve just learned about collection, or accumulation. Click on the home icon to go to another part of the water cycle or take the quiz!

  28. Let’s Try Remembering What You Just Learned! Can you think of a mnemonic to remember evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and collection? Remember a mnemonic is a phrase that uses the first letter of each word to help us remember the parts.

  29. Creating a Mnemonic An example might be “eagles catch puffy clouds” or “eating cake pleases children” mmm…I like cake, too!

  30. Use your mnemonic to label the spaces on this picture _____________ _____________ ____________ _____________ ______________ 3

  31. Did you remember all of them? Condensation Transpiration Precipitation Evaporation Collection or Accumulation If you remembered them all, GOOD JOB! If not, try to go back and review.

  32. Let’s see what you’ve learned about the water cycle! On the next questions, click directly on the answer! Try to get them ALL right!

  33. What do you call the process where clouds form in the sky? • Evaporation • Condensation • Collection • Precipitation

  34. Great Job! You got that one right! FANTASTIC! You know a lot about me!

  35. Try Again! Remember: When clouds form in the sky, it is like water forming on the outside of a cold glass of water!

  36. What is transpiration? • Water moves from a plant to another plant. • Plants leak water and vapor out of their leaves. • People sweating. • All of the above.

  37. Great Job! You got that one right! WOW! You are so smart!

  38. Try Again! Remember: Transpiration doesn’t happen in people. Trees, flowers, and other plants transpire.

  39. As water is heated, what state does it become? • Liquid • Solid • Gas • White

  40. Great Job! You got that one right! Perfect! Let’s see if I can trick you on the next one!

  41. Try Again! Remember: When it’s really hot, we don’t see ice! Instead, we see steam until it becomes invisible!

  42. Fog is an example of what? • Condensation • Evaporation • Transpiration • Accumulation

  43. Great Job! You got that one right! AWESOME!You know a lot about me!

  44. Try Again! Remember: Fog is like a cloud close to the ground!

  45. What is an example of collection? • Ocean • Ground Water • Puddle • All of the above

  46. Great Job! You got that one right! Another one right! Good job!

  47. Try Again! Remember: Collection is when water comes together on the Earth. Make sure to read all the answers before picking.

  48. What step comes after condensation? • Transpiration • Evaporation • Adaptation • Precipitation

  49. Great Job! You got that one right! FANTASTIC! You know a lot about me!

  50. Try Again! Maybe this will help! Take a look! Condensation Transpiration Precipitation Evaporation Collection
