There are three main steps in Italian education • Primary School, from 6 to 10 • Middle School, from 11 to 13 • Secondary School, from 14 to 18
Different types of Secondary Schools in Italy • General Secondary education: it prepares students for their university studies: There are different kinds of Secondary Schools: Scientific, Linguistic, Classic, Social, Economic • Technical Schools: they prepare students for their working career in the fields of: Economy, Industry, Computering, Aeronautics, Agricolture, Tourism, Hotelling, Office.
Humanistic area: Italian Latin, English, History, Geography Philosophy Art, Religion. Scientific area: Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Drawing ICT Scientific High SchoolSubjects are divided in two main areas:
School Organization • Lessons are held from Monday to Saturday from 8.20 to 14.20. • Teachers don’t have a fixed room, they move from class to class. • Students don’t have to wear a uniform, there is no dress code. • Students have to buy their own books and they are rather expensive.
Students’ Life in the School • Students are assigned to a class and follow the group along all their curriculum, therefore they stay together for five years. • Classes are made of 25 to 30 students of both sexes. • Every year students elect their representatives, who will take part in the management of the school together with representatives of teachers and parents. • Every month students hold a general assembly to discuss social problems or internal matters.
Optional Activities • In the afternoon the school is open for remedy courses, optional activities, sport practice, journalism, extra language courses, music and theatre groups. • These courses are not subject to evaluation: they offer students a way to cultivate new interests in a familiar sorrounding .
Educational Aim of the School Our School works for the well being of its students, offering tutoring in various areas: • Health education, prevention of alcohol and drug abuse, education to sport. • Psychological counseling , prevention of bullism and food disorders, analysis of learner’s needs and difficulties. .
Citizens of the Future Our school works also for the development of our students’ individual potentialities, by organizing: • University orientation councelling for future careers • Organization of internal and external competitions in scientific subjects to enhance eccellency • Literary and artistic competitions to enhance creativity • Advanced courses in foreign languages and ICT.
