  1. A Natural Source Of Melatonin Melatonin is produced by the pineal gland. It's thought to play a part in anti aging, as well as helping jet lag and insomnia. But a few of the research that's been performed with people suggests that melatonin could be rather helpful -- if it is taken with the supervision of a physician. And herein lies the crux of this issue -- melatonin is a very strong chemical. Just tiny doses are needed to create improvements. As an example, Dr Cooper cites the instance of doses as little as 2 to 3 mg just, for some people suffering insomnia.
