  2. Creating a climate for reading Find a quiet, comfortable place to read Read aloud to your child Make sure you it is uninterrupted time Talk about the book and what is happening – the characters Ask questions to help them understand the story Remember little children get tired

  3. Ways to practice reading Pair reading Echo reading Reading aloud Reading silently

How you can help Let the child: Hold the book Point to the words Look at the pictures for clues Give the child time to think Try again Use their sounds e.g. t r a m Look at the first sound and think about what would make sense Don’t expect your child to know every word. Remember use lots of praise

  7. Comprehension In a jungle there lived a big lion. He was strong. He was the king of the jungle. All the other animals were afraid of him. They would run and hide, when they heard the lion roar. Questions: Where did the lion live? Was the lion strong or weak? Why were the animals frightened of the lion?
